5 Healthy & Easy Breakfast Items from Trader Joe’s
On hectic weekday mornings, it can be so tempting to grab a pastry or skip breakfast altogether. But to be productive & feel our best, we’ve got to fuel our mornings with nutritious, well-balanced meals.
So, to get a healthy breakfast on the table in minutes, here are the top five Trader Joe’s items we turn to on our busiest days.
We've included suggestions for making your breakfast nutritionally complete and links to additional recipes using these products.
1. Unsweetened Instant Oatmeal
Unlike most instant oatmeals, this one has zero grams of sugar! And because it also contains flax seeds, chia seeds & quinoa, it provides extra protein, fiber and omega-3’s.
This oatmeal has a slightly nutty flavor and hearty texture. Add some fruit & nuts to make it nutritionally complete with the perfect amount of sweet & crunch! Yum!
It’s particularly delicious made with TJ’s frozen cherries and topped with pistachios.
2. Egg Frittata with Swiss Cheese and Cauliflower
A tasty & convenient way to start your morning! These scrumptious little cakes are light and fluffy. The cheese adds creaminess, the cauliflower adds texture, and the onions enhance the savory flavor.
And don’t worry that it comes from the frozen food aisle because we reduce the sodium & saturated fat by using just one frittata per serving. To turn it into a complete, filling breakfast just add a serving of fruit & whole grains.
We love to chop one up & fold it into a corn tortilla with avocado to make a delicious breakfast taco, and enjoy it with an orange on the side.
3. Gluten-Free Toaster Waffles
These are the best toaster waffles we’ve tasted! They’re crispy on the outside, tender on the inside and quite filling.
To reduce the sodium & sugar, we use just one waffle per serving. To turn it into a satisfying, well-balanced breakfast we top it with nut butter and blueberries. It’s like having a treat for breakfast!
4. Trader Joe’s Cage-Free Fresh Hard-Cooked Peeled Eggs
Of course, you can boil your own eggs, but when time is scarce, these sure come in handy! They’re cooked, peeled & ready to eat. So easy!
For a quick & satisfying meal, slice one up & add it to avocado toast, and enjoy an apple on the side.
5. Heritage Cereal
Yes, it’s ok to eat breakfast cereal! When you have a busy morning, it’s a much better option than what you’d buy at any café or drive-thru.
We love how the heirloom grains make this cereal so crunchy & tasty. We also love that it’s relatively high in fiber & protein and low in sugar. (You’ll feel fuller for longer and it won’t spike your blood sugar.)
To create a delicious, well-balanced meal, add a serving of fruit and some additional protein. We love topping it with slivered almonds and sliced banana & strawberries.
